FREEZER, OIL TANK, HUNIDIFIERS and TIRES HAULED OFF the RAIL TRAILS
Garbage adjacent to the Rail Trail has always been a problem and, regardless of who gets the blame, one group of volunteers can be counted on to help clean up the mess each year. On June 12, the Haliburton ATV Association focused on the IB&O Rail Trail that runs from Wilberforce to Gooderham.

Working in the rain and mud presented the usual challenges, but ATVers are always prepared for this kind of weather with rain suits, tall boots and work gloves.

Three trailers full of items resulted from the day’s work, including the usual bags of garbage as well as cans, bottles and loose debris. However, surprise items included a freezer, an oil tank, a couple of humidifiers and over 50 tires. Some truck tires were still on the rims. All of these were down in a gully, but with the help of the winches on their bikes, the ATV club members were able to haul them up. With clearance from Dave Burton, Reeve of Highlands East, items were accepted at the Tory Hill Dump.

Celebrating a job well done, the volunteers were treated to a barbecue lunch, after cleaning up themselves. It was a day full of camaraderie and satisfaction. Bob Johnson, president of HATVA presented volunteers with the club’s official volunteer hats.

On future spring and fall clean-up days Haliburton ATV Association will invite other
Trail user groups to adopt a few metres of trail and join in the volunteer effort. As they say, “Many hands make light work” and all users of the Rail Trail benefit from a clean and natural setting.

2010 RIDES AND EVENTS
This page may be updated at any time so check for changes.

Normally we do not plan activities on long weekends to give you time with the family. However, we have planned a special weekend for members of OFATV and EOTA. Check out labour day weekend. For HATVA events you need to confirm your attendance by email. Check this website BEFORE you head out to make sure an event or ride has not been moved or cancelled.

Make sure you fuel up in advance of the ride and bring food and water with you. The time shown is the time we LEAVE from the meeting location. Rides (unless otherwise stated) require HATVA membership or trail pass. Buy your pass or membership online BEFORE you arrive at the event. Most of the events are full day events and often take 5-7 hours to complete. Please drive with your low beam headlights on during the rides.

New riders are encouraged to attend beginner to intermediate rides. Other riders will assist you during the ride if you encounter difficulties or need help with your ATV.

HATVA has a zero tolerance for impaired operation of an ATV.

For riders intending to participate on a specific ride, you need to contact the ride co-ordinator before the ride. This email can be used to confirm start time (usually 10:00 am), the meeting location, weather conditions, food arrangements, trail conditions, allowance of road driving, length of the ride and/or any questions. You may also contact HATVA through our information line 705-286-6823.
