DOORS OPEN |
Doors Open Invitation September 7 & 8, 2013
Members of the public, businesses and organizations are invited to participate in the upcoming Doors Open event scheduled for September 7 and 8, 2013.
Doors Open invites us to explore our communities, share spaces and stories, and step into our shared past.
The theme of Cultural expressions will provide an opportunity for communities across the province to celebrate the relationship between heritage and the arts. Venues for the arts – such as theatres, opera houses, art galleries, artist studios, recital halls and recording studios – are ideal sites for celebrating this year’s theme.
Also appropriate are sites associated with renowned artists or specific works of art. Such sites would include the homes of famous novelists, landmarks captured in famous paintings, or settings depicted in popular songs or films.
We encourage you to get creative this year, too. Let your inner artist come out, and let our Doors Open events and sites inspire you. Please submit a photo and small description of your location to Shannon Prentice at sprentice@mindenhills.ca no later than Friday April 12, 2103.

MINDEN HILLS GOOD NEIGHBOUR AWARD |
Nomination Deadline: September 30th, 2013**
Concept
An annual award program for permanent or seasonal residents of Minden Hills Township which recognizes and promotes the positive impact of good neighbourly deeds.
This award has been anonymously donated by a kind and civic-minded citizen.
The Good Neighbour Award is oriented more towards activities which are undertaken primarily as a result of an individual’s own initiative to do spontaneous or unheralded deeds rather than through participation in organized services and committees.
Individuals contribute to their community in many ways and the nature of such activities can vary widely; from a single act of kindness to multiple deeds benefiting many people. In all cases, the nominee’s activities must embody a strong sense of values, promote the positive impact of good neighbourly deeds and have contributed to the vitality and fabric of our community making Minden Hills a better community in which we live.
Award
A selection committee will review the submissions on an annual basis to determine if there is an appropriate candidate to receive this award
The award consists of an individual plaque, recognition on a master plaque displayed at the Township Office and a voucher redeemable for the purchase of goods or services within the Township.
Criteria
The following are some examples of the kinds of activities which may be considered for the Good Neighbor Award:
Someone who is a merchant or service provider and goes well beyond the norm in looking after the persons he or she serves in the community;
Someone who undertakes an act of personal courage in seeking to assist another person in an emergency;
Someone who goes well out of their way, possibly on a continuing basis, to assist one or more seniors, particularly those who are vulnerable for health or financial reasons;
Someone with a good natured, outgoing personality who finds a way to make another persons day a little more easier or enjoyable;
Someone who rallies the community together for a cause that is important for a member of the community or for the whole community.
Nominations Nominations must be made in writing and submitted in confidence by September 30, 2012 to the Township of Minden Hills, c/o Nancy Wright-Laking, Deputy Clerk, 7 Milne Street, Minden, Ont. K0M 2K0.

EARTH HOUR |
Saturday March 23th, 2013 8:30-9:30pm
Council and Staff of the Township of Minden Hills support Earth Hour and ask Minden Hills’ residents to join in with over a billion people around the world to unite to support solutions on climate change.
Earth Hour is a global event being observed in all the world in a bid to reduce carbon emission from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday March 23rd and calls upon the public to switch off all their electric equipment including lights.
WWF is calling on Canadians to think about how we use and produce energy. To create the best possible future for Canadians and for the planet, let's stop wasting energy, and generate what we need from clean, renewable sources like wind and solar. Canada can be a world leader in clean energy. But the longer we wait, the more it will cost - both in dollars and environmental impact.
All over Canada, and the world, a time has come to reconnect and look at how we can be better at helping fight climate change at home. Conserving energy, buying more environmentally friendly products, or walking instead of driving are all small changes that every family can make. Families are the glue that holds a community together and when they take a stand for the planet by enforcing these actions in daily living, the impact that has on the world is huge. Do this now – for us, for our children and our grandchildren.
Please support the benefits that make our world, our Country and our communities a better place to live in! Please support Earth Hour on March 23rd! |
