CRAZY RIVER RAFT RACE 2010 |
July 1st Minden Crazy River Raft Race. Down the Gull River from Rotary Park to downtown Minden. Registration 11am to noon, 12.30pm start.
Prizes for the most original raft, most creative costumes, most enthusiastic crew, and first to finish. Candies for all entries, no entry fee. All entries must be substantially home made (no canoes or kayaks). Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, under 18 must have entry form signed by parent or guardian. EVERY YARD COUNTS 2010 |
2010 Every Yard Counts nomination deadline July 2010 – Every yard in Minden Hills contributes to the overall appearance of our community, and once again, an awards program helps to promote the idea. Every Yard Counts is a partnership between the Minden & District Horticultural Society and the Township of Minden Hills to encourage and recognize residents and businesses in our community who contribute to the beautification of our Township.
“Everyone can contribute to keep our community looking good” said Rick Cox, Director of Community Services. “Even if you’re no green thumb, by cleaning up litter in and near your yard or planting a tree you are doing your part.”
The Every Yard Counts campaign hopes to spread the idea that residents and businesses have a role to play in keeping the Township attractive to visitors. Cox commented that “last year’s Awards really did recognize some great gardens, and this year we’re building towards next year’s Sesquicentennial of Minden.”
In addition to the publicity campaign, nominations are being accepted for Every Yard Counts Awards of
Merit. Awards will be given in residential, commercial and neighbourhood categories. Nomination forms are available at the Township office, the Cultural Centre and various locations around town, and must be dropped off at the Township office. The nomination deadline is July 2010.
The Horticultural Society is arranging the judges and will carry out the judging of the nominees in all three categories. Residents are encouraged to nominate people or businesses and/or hand out nomination forms to others.

GORDON A. MONK AWARD |
2009 Winner of the Gordon A. Monk Award for Volunteerism & Citizenship - Molly McInerney
In grateful recognition of Gord Monk’s achievements as well as the value he placed on
Volunteerism and citizen participation, the Township of Minden Hills is accepting nominations for the Gordon A. Monk Award for Volunteerism and Citizenship.
The award is intended to be presented on an annual basis, and consists of a plaque for the recipient as well as recognition on a master plaque kept on display at the Township Office.
Criteria
Nominees for this award should have demonstrated extensive volunteerism over an extended period of time in multiple areas of service to our community.
Eligibility
1. Nominees must be 14 years of age or older
2. Nominees must be or have been a resident of Minden Hills for at least five years.
3. Nominations can be made by any resident(s) of Minden Hills or Haliburton County.

The Minden 150 Bike Tour welcomes cyclists of all ages and abilities to Minden where they can enjoy a safe, rural road-cycling adventure that matches their ability. This one-day event offers three loops to riders: a beginner-friendly 40km "Choose-Your-Distance" loop, a 70km loop and a 150km loop.
