DAWSON'S GAME
This will be an annual event.

3rd Annual “Dawson’s Game” during Winterfest Minden
Tuesday, February *, 2012– As part the annual Winterfest celebrations, Minden is hosting a hockey game between the Minden Fire Department and the Dysart Fire Department. The second annual "Dawson's Game" will be played at the Minden Community Centre on Sunday Feb * in memory of Dawson Hamilton, who lost his battle with leukemia in January 2010.
"Dawson's Game" is named not only in his memory, but because hockey was his game. He attended games whenever the opportunity arose and he was well enough to go.
Come out and cheer on our local firefighters and celebrate Dawson’s Game. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. immediately after a recital by the Minden Figure Skating Club. There will be a 50/50 draw as well as a "chuck-a-puck" competition during intermission of Dawson’s Game.
The Winterfest Minden Chili competition runs from 4-6pm, and the Red Hawk Hockey alumni are taking on the Aurora Tigers hockey club from 5:30-6:450pm. Come for the chili ($5/person, $15/family) and to support our local skaters, and enjoy a couple of great hockey games. Admission to the game is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to support the Campbell Family Cancer Research Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital
The County Fair Board will also be serving pancakes on Family Day, Monday Feb 21, from 8:30-11am at the Community Centre. Come out and enjoy Winterfest Minden – it’s HOT in Minden in February! Watch for the full event listing in your local papers.

MINDEN HILLS GOOD NEIGHBOUR AWARD
Concept

An annual award program for permanent or seasonal residents of Minden Hills Township which recognizes and promotes the positive impact of good neighbourly deeds.

This award has been anonymously donated by a kind and civic-minded citizen.

The Good Neighbour Award is oriented more towards activities which are undertaken primarily as a result of an individual’s own initiative to do spontaneous or unheralded deeds rather than through participation in organized services and committees.

Individuals contribute to their community in many ways and the nature of such activities can vary widely; from a single act of kindness to multiple deeds benefiting many people. In all cases, the nominee’s activities must embody a strong sense of values, promote the positive impact of good neighbourly deeds and have contributed to the vitality and fabric of our community making Minden Hills a better community in which we live.

Award

A selection committee will review the submissions on an annual basis to determine if there is an appropriate candidate to receive this award

The award consists of an individual plaque, recognition on a master plaque displayed at the Township Office and a voucher redeemable for the purchase of goods or services within the Township.

Criteria

The following are some examples of the kinds of activities which may be considered for the Good Neighbor Award:

Someone who is a merchant or service provider and goes well beyond the norm in looking after the persons he or she serves in the community;

Someone who undertakes an act of personal courage in seeking to assist another person in an emergency;

Someone who goes well out of their way, possibly on a continuing basis, to assist one or more seniors, particularly those who are vulnerable for health or financial reasons;

Someone with a good natured, outgoing personality who finds a way to make another persons day a little more easier or enjoyable;

Someone who rallies the community together for a cause that is important for a member of the community or for the whole community.

Nominations must be made in writing and submitted in confidence by 12:00 noon on September 30, 2011 to the Township of Minden Hills, c/o Interim Clerk, 7 Milne Street, Minden, On K0M 2K0.
