Winter is Here
The lake is now frozen over, snowmobiling has started and the local cross country and downhill ski areas are busy. Our snowshoe trails are in great shape too and the wild life is everywhere; flocks of wild turkeys and deer are abundant. Winter in Snowshoe cottage is the best way to enjoy an escape from the city and the pressures of day to day life. It's peaceful at Foxwood and it's a great place to relax and unwind. Experience the the fresh clean air, snowshoeing on moonlit trails and then gathered around a warm fire with hot drink.....amazing!

Chinook is ready in May
The construction of our next cottage is now well underway. Like Snowshoe cottage which we built as a solar powered cottage 4 years ago, Chinook cottage will be eco-friendly. This time however, we are building the house using straw bales. We want to be at the leading edge of operating in a sustainable manner and so this cottage will a shining example of "green" design. When completed at the end of May it will be our largest at over 2800sq ft with 3 - 4 bedrooms, a Muskoka porch and a huge living space. Check out our BLOG to get updates on our progress. First Chickens - Now Bees and a Garden!
When we introduced our laying hens a few years ago they were a huge hit with everyone, particularly the kids who often helped to gather the eggs. And there is nothing like fresh eggs for breakfast! We are now beekeeepers having started our first hive in June 2008. We just took our second harvest of honey in September. Our organic vegetable garden started last year, and in addition to our strong emphasis on recycling, we also offer composting.
Out of the Lake, into the Sauna...
Our new waterfront dry sauna is ready and waiting. What a treat. It can be an invigorating experience to take a refreshing dip in the lake during fall or spring and then follow it up with the cleansing sensation of a hot sauna. Wow!

If you are visiting us in the summer, join us on Wednesday evenings for the summer Book Club. We always have a list of great books to review and talk about. Our summer 2010 list for the weeks starting July 3, 2010 will be announced soon.
